Year 2: Review

stage  A harbor backdrop.  A light breeze on a perfect 80 degree day. A historic cobblestoned downtown location.  Now, add 6 local bands with top-notch talent – that was New Bedford JazzFest 2013.

With a string of 10 days of raw and rainy weather, we could never have expected how much Ma’ Nature loves Jazz.   Nor did we expect such a turn-out – 700+ showed their appreciation for great music, and they were rewarded with unforgettable shows from all 6 bands:

  • Dino Govoni with The Horseneck Trio and The UMass Dartmouth Faculty All-Stars
  • Southcoast Jazz Orchestra
  • Marcus Monteiro Quartet
  • Dori Legge with The John Harrison Quartet
  • The UMD Latin Jazz Vision Ensemble

doriAs a bonus, patrons were treated to Artist’s Row – a new feature that showcased the work of local artisans, from jewelry and clothing to sketches and canvas paintings.

While Buzzards Bay Brewery made a return trip to JazzFest, we welcomed another local favorite, Shipyard Brewery.  And let’s not forget the food – Fiddlestix, Grilled Cheese Nation and Flour Girls left everyone with smiles on their faces.

ericAll of this, the brainchild of Eric Paradis, is to benefit Your Theatre – a 67 year young company that is in need of their own place to call home.

Which brings us to some very important links that we hope you visit, patronize and share with others:

Did we forget anyone?  If we did, please let us know so we can recognize their efforts in making this year’s JazzFest so successful.  Here’s to year 3!

So you’ve got your tickets…what do you need to know for the festival?

We can’t wait to see you at NB JazzFest 2013 on Saturday, June 15th! Over the last couple of weeks we have received some great questions here and on our Facebook page about the festival. Here is some information to get you ready:

Tickets are $15/each in advance, $20/each day of. Let your friends know to purchase in advance and save some money!

Children ages 13 and under are FREE with paying adult!

If you purchase your JazzFest tickets online, your name will be added to the Will Call list at the festival. This way you don’t have to worry about the tickets getting lost in the mail. Just present your ID at the Will Call line and claim your tickets on the spot.

Free parking for JazzFest can be found at 49 State Pier, New Bedford (Ferry Parking). The lot is right next to festival and the address can be used in your GPS.

There will be plenty of seats but your spot is determined on a first come first serve basis. If you really want to be close to either stage, be sure to arrive early. JazzFest is a handicap friendly event, areas will be designated for wheelchairs.

One of  JazzFest’s goals is bring traffic and attention to downtown New Bedford. You will be given a wristband when you first enter the festival, feel free to leave, visit local restaurants and businesses, and come back for more jazz by showing your wristband at check-in.

Be sure to check out the center spread of your JazzFest Program Book, 7 local restaurants have coupons that can be used after JazzFest. There is even a map to help you walk or drive to them.

Coolers or containers are not allowed inside the festival. We will have an amazing assortment of food and beverage vendors on site.

JazzFest is a rain or shine event. All of the seats will be under a large tent in case of rain. The festival is right on the ocean, so remember a light jacket as it may get cooler as the day goes on.

Keep the questions coming! We are counting down to the 15th, see you at the festival!

New Web Address + FREE Admission update for 13 and under

Didja hear?  You can now type in http://www.newbedfordjazzfest.com to get to our site.  Tell all of your friends and family members – this is going to be an amazing event!

Plus, and a big plus – this year, any child age 13 and under will be admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult.  This is great news for families!

We are working on new artwork, ticket locations and finalizing the bands – new big update soon.  Stay ‘tuned’…

Ticket prices and hours

So after our first HUGE JazzFest committee meeting, we have agreed on ticket prices and hours for the festival.

Tickets: $15 before, $20 at the door

Times: 2 PM – 7 PM

And we must stress the difference between this year and last year: we are truly focusing on the ‘festival’ vibe this year.  We are working on having 2 stages for bands (1 main and 1 side) so that once one band finishes, we can have another band, or comedian or performer keep the momentum going on the second stage.

Plus we are working with local, New Bedford vendors to have booths at the ‘fest.  Seating will be limited this year, but our goal is to have everyone moving around, dancing and having a great time in a family-friendly atmosphere!

More updates coming.  Stay ‘tuned’…

New Year, New Date, New Location!

The New Bedford JazzFest 2013 Committee has been hard at work planning the next event.  This year, we are developing a true festival – more acts and a half day event that the whole family will enjoy.

The 2013 New Bedford JazzFest will take place on Saturday, June 15th at Pier 3 on the waterfront in downtown New Bedford.

Be sure to bookmark this site as we will be updating it regularly with JF info, announcements of acts, polls and sponsorship info.  And of course, a very special ‘thank you’ to Bridgewater Credit Union for making year #1 and #2 possible!
